Every year Remembrance Sunday strikes a chord with most of us. Our loyal servicemen and women do not get the respect the deserve on a day-to-day basis, so it is only right that for one day of the year we all unite to pay our respects and to show our appreciation for the sacrifices they make.
Today I will also by remembering my grandfather Tom Sharp MVO. As a Royal Signals Warrant Officer he served our country for more than twenty years before working at the Tower of London for a further 20 years. He has been the ultimate role model for me and I wish to spread the word of the amazing work the armed forces do for us and the things he sacrificed for me. Although he did not die during conflict, he deserves a mention for the years he served and the lived he changed.
Seeing the poppies at the Tower of London has made this year extremely poignant for me, after losing such a wonderful man. It is amazing to see the millions of people that have taken the time to visit them and show respect to the fallen soldiers of WWI. I urge you all to see them, and to buy one, as there will never be a display of unity like it again.
We can all learn lessons from the servicemen and women we support. Working together, setting challenges and aiming high are all things we should adopt in our lives. Please join us in support of these soldiers, and their families, by visiting the Tower, wearing a Royal British Legion poppy with pride and by being united with others on this day of Remembrance.
